In late fall, in Northern India, we ran into this relatively oblivious woman, sitting on a stone wall next to her harvested field, in which we had just noted the lance-like dark leaves of a few remaining stalks. She merely nodded when we asked if we could photograph her, with no change of expression or attitude, holding her large hookah like an everyday work tool. In the painting, I blurred many shapes together an other-worldly feel.
This painting received First Place at the Artists Alpine Exhibit in Ouray, CO.
